Health Update

Summer has been surpringly normal-as-far-migraine-goes so far – owed completely to the fact it’s hardly be able to be called summer. Seriously, why couldn’t this kind cold, rainy summer happen for those two years when I was mowed over by chronic migraine and chronic stomach cramps and/or diarrhea and chronic tiredness 24/7/365 when felt like I was dying every minute? No, it had be the summer to end all summers then. 17 hot days this year; 44 then. Blargh.

In other health related news – I think… I am not dreaming anymore. It’s been about a month now, that I haven’t woken up from sleep and remembered the dream and/or several dreams from the night. I remember that it used to be like this, before the dreaming started in spring of 2009. Now it feels new, and odd, and wonderful. But really odd. I can’t wait to be able to sleep more nights like a normal person, finally!  😀 Feels like the quality of my sleep is maybe better now? Than with constant dreaming, when I often, especially at first, felt like I lived another day while I was sleeping. Which no wonder, because my dreams are always of the action/adventure type.

I wonder what made it stop though. I’ve always been of the opinion that Thyroxin started it – the dreaming started 3 days after I took it for the first time, and never stopped until now. My GP upped the dosage some months ago (April or May), so I wonder if that has anything to do with it. Going have the levels checked again for my September appointment with the gastroenterologist, and I hope if Thyroxin needs to be adjusted again, it won’t affect the current no-dreams thing going on. But.. no dreams! YAY!! 😀

Bad Sleep, Dreaming & Liza Marklund’s Panttivanki

I haven’t slept well the past two nights – hardly at all. I still dream every night, and when I sleep badly, seems like I remember the dreams a lot better than when I sleep well :/ Feeling tired and unenergetic, want to go and try to sleep but I know I won’t be able to and that it’s best wait for the night. Which is bloody 9 hours away :/

I’m trying to read Liza Marklund’s latest I got from the library, Panttivanki (Du gamla, du fria). I’ve liked all the other books by Marklund I’ve read, but I’m having a lot of problems with this one – I’ve been trying for at least three weeks, and I’m only at 81 pages 🙁 Normally, it’d take me maybe three or four days to read the entire damn book. A week at the most!

The main character is a Annika, an investigating journalist. She investigates and exposes human trafficing, corruption, crimes, abuse of power, injustice, evil, the truth, that sort of thing. She’s not a snob, interested in maintaining the correct image or putting out airs. She’s not political. Her husband, Thomas, is all of those, and more.

(The rest is behind the cut because of spoilers for Panttivanki (Du gamla, du fria)).

Categories Is Actually Alive!

Hell has frozen over – the management of is actually alive! They have setup a blog and twitter and are actually answering and fixing some things users have reported broken!

It never occurred to me they’d ever do that! It’s been 10 years of silence. And no – I don’t count the notices on the front page which were always posted after something was broken and it had been fixed hours/days/weeks/months after the breakage. They never posted to say “yes, we know X is broken, we’re working on it” even if it took days or weeks to fix it 🙁 So I don’t (didn’t?) count the front page.

Although it remains to be seen whether they’ll really listen to their users and roll back changes we don’t like (like the new review box and ready-ticked-favorite-story-author-boxes) or add things we do want like bring back the MA-rating.

Oh, and I hope this new age of communication between and their users will be a lasting feature, not an anomaly that lasts for a month or two.

Stupid Cough

I’m sick of coughing. If I have to have to the flu, why can’t I ever have the runny nose version anymore? That doesn’t make my head feel like I’m having a migraine attack for days on end even though I’m not, like coughing all the damn time does :/ And the cough in my experience never goes away as quickly as the runny nose version 🙁

Chaptered Fanfic

Lately it seems to me that people don’t get chaptered fic ’cause they ask the writer to explain to them the why, what and who of all of it in Chapter 1 because if they continue on to other chapters, they’re gonna be confused. I don’t know… Chapter 1… out of 48. I kind of think you’re not supposed to know exactly why, what and who at this time, you know?

Saw this for the 3rd time today in as many, not sure, weeks?

Health Update

Two notable things, wanted to have a record for the future…

Migraines started threateaning to become chronic again starting December, so Topimax was added to my migraine prevention meds. Yesterday I got to the full maintenance dosage, and results should be starting to show by mid-March. I think it’s been better for a week or so now, but could be coincidence. Crossing my fingers.

RE: chronic diarrhea… Questran didn’t help as it was hoped. 3 doses a day, compared to 2, made no difference at all. So I was scheduled for a capsule endoscopy (a camera pill), and that is tomorrow. So no eating today at all but I can drink as normal (with some limitations as to what). Luckily I don’t have to do that absolutely horrible empty-your-bowel-operation-that-is-worse-than-colonoscopy-itself!

The operation is done in the neighboring town’s TYKS hospital instead of in my home town, guess it was faster scheduling it there, so I get to get up at 5.30am, catch my local bus 6.05am, catch the-bus-to-the-neighboring-town at 6.35am and be at the hospital at 7.30am. Then it’ll take 7-8 hours for the camera pill to travel its course in my body, take about 50 000  (!) photos of my bowels,  and then I get to go home. And it’ll come out the natural way in the next three days. Hopefully. If it doesn’t, needs to be removed either via colonoscopy or laparoscopically.

… I wonder what it says about me but I’m actually more anxious about the bus trip to the neighboring city than the procedure  LOL

Petition the European Parliament to review and push back ACTA

Why you should protest ACTA if you’re a European, and how. The first quote is from UK perspective, and the petition for UK citizens, but it explains well why ACTA is bad for all Europeans so I’m posting it although I’m Finnish and not UK citizen.

Taken from  [info]padabee, who took it from [info]eumelkeks, who took it from [info]macfraser82, who…, originally posted on [info]vidding:

If you’re from the UK and you believe in freedom of speech and an uncensored internet, you really need to sign this petition. There are others floating about, but that particular one is the best way to ensure that your voice gets heard. It’s hosted on the directgov website and addresses parliament directly. If it gets more than 100,000 signatures, it becomes eligible for discussion in the House of Commons.

Everyone’s been getting so worked up over SOPA — and rightly so — that ACTA seems to have slipped under the radar. This is hugely problematic, because ACTA is a similar bill, but it has the potential to be far more damaging than SOPA ever could be.

Some people seem to have this misconception that ACTA is the ‘European SOPA’, but that simply isn’t true. It’s a global treaty, and it’s already been signed by eight countries, including the US, Japan, New Zealand and Singapore. Europe votes on Thursday. If they vote ‘no’, the bill will have to be taken back to the drawing board and reformulated, which should buy us some time at the very least.

If you think this doesn’t affect you, you’re wrong. If ACTA passes, it could well signal the end of the internet as we know it, and that isn’t an exaggeration. It’s not just about watching movies and television online. If ACTA passes, sites like YouTube, Livejournal, Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook and even Google and Wikipedia could become impossible to maintain. ACTA would allow ISPs to monitor your net activity and cut off internet access for your entire household if one person is suspected of breaching copyright. Think Big Brother is Watching. I don’t think I need to emphasise just how damaging it can be to be without internet access in this day and age, when we rely so heavily on technology.

It’s not only bloggers and fandom that would be affected, either. Small businesses, independent film-makers and unsigned musicians who have previously found their niche online would also suffer hugely, and would be at risk of being bullied into submission by Hollywood and multinational corporations under accusations of copyright infringement. All those artists who found fame by uploading covers of songs to YouTube would never have had the opportunity to do so under ACTA, as those cover versions would be prohibited.

I know the internet has its problems, but to my mind it’s the single greatest invention to come out of modern times, and it would be an absolute travesty if we were to lose that now. From a personal point of view, I can’t even put into words how important this is to me. I’ve met some of my closest friends through the internet and online fandom, people whom I would likely never have met without it, and it’s given me this amazing social support system. I don’t want that to end here, and I want to preserve it for future generations so that they can have the same experience and opportunities I’ve been given through my online interactions.

I know that opinions on the seriousness of copyright infringement and online piracy vary wildly, but that isn’t really the point. Internet giants such as Google are opposed to this bill, and it’s pretty safe to say that they’re not in favour of copyright infringment, as anyone who’s ever had a fanvid taken down from YouTube will be painfully aware. Whatever your stance on copyright, this isn’t the way to go about dealing with it. This is dangerous legislation that impeaches on some of our most basic human rights, such as the right to privacy and freedom of speech.

So if you’re from the UK, please, please sign the petition. If you hail from elsewhere in the world, there may well be similar movements in your own country, but I think the most effective thing anybody can do right now is to keep talking about this. Talk about it on Livejournal, on Twitter, on Tumblr, on Facebook, and anywhere else you can think of. Make sure this issue is never far from people’s minds. The internet is an amazingly powerful tool: let’s utilise it while we still have the chance.

I hope this is ok to post here as the passing of this bill will be a devestating blow to vidding.

Please repost and spread the word 🙂

Five facts:

1. ACTA isn’t the “European” SOPA. It’s nearly GLOBAL, and will apply to every country that signs the treaty.

2. ACTA is far more aggressive. ACTA will not simply affect websites and have them blocked out of the internet – its measures go as far as surveillance of anything you share through private channels.

3. ACTA doesn’t have a campaign against it that is as wide-spread and organized as the SOPA one. This is DANGEROUS, as there’s less time between now and the final signing of ACTA.

4. ACTA has effects on healthcare, trade, and even tourism.

5. ACTA has to be stopped.

Let’s start spreading the word and organizing a good, solid response to it.

More information:

The petition online website seems to not be working but here is a link to the direct gov petition it only has 2,193 signatures so far:

Guys, don’t forget the most direct option to contact the EU Parliament (tho it’s only good for EU citizens):

If you’re an European citizen, this is what you CAN do:

Send a petition to the European Parliament where you explain, briefly but thoroughly, why it needs to push back ACTA and demand a more transparent debate of its contents, as well as demand that the agreement be more precise on its contents, specially those involving criminal action or any activity that would affect net neutrality, freedom of speech, or privacy.

How to write the petition:

1. Read the official ACTA text.

2. Make it a three-paragraph request, easy to read (be thorough, but BRIEF, and don’t be superfluous). Keep a clear flow:

a. Introduce yourself, and briefly tell them what the content of your request is (AKA “I would like to request the European Parliament to vote against ACTA.”)

b. Explain your major concerns about ACTA. Make sure to have your facts well-founded. Quote the law if you can, or at least the sources from where your concerns arise.

c. Wrap your petition letter up reasserting your concern.

3. Remember to BE POLITE. You are addressing an official body of government.

– Be polite. Be official. Be serious.

– If, as a petitioner, you do not wish your name to be disclosed, the European Parliament will respect your privacy, but such requests must be clear and explicitly mentioned in your petition.

– Remember, petitions must deal with:

  • your rights as a European citizen as set out in the Treaties,
  • environmental matters,
  • consumer protection,
  • free movement of persons, goods and services, internal market,
  • employment issues and social policy,
  • recognition of professional qualifications,
other problems related to the implementation of EU law.

SO, focus your petition in such a way that it highlights how ACTA might affect any of those aspects.

Finally, you can also send GROUP PETITIONS by POST mail. Collect signatures and send it to:

  • European Parliament
  • The President of the European Parliament
  • Rue Wiertz
    B-1047 BRUSSELS
The European Parliament is also on Facebook. If you have a facebook account you may want to take petitions there as well:

Celebrities & Twitter & Facebook

Lately, fans on my Oded Fehr forum have been talking much about how Oded Fehr should have a Twitter account or a Facebook and keep in some contact with his fans. That they “don’t get it” why he doesn’t have either and doesn’t keep in contact with his fans. It’s starting to annoy me and this is my take on the subject which I posted there:

I do get it. There are people who really aren’t interested in social media and that’s okay. You don’t have to be shy or have any particular reason why not be there. It’s okay to just not be interested. I think we/fans/audience are more than a little spoiled these days. Millions of “normal people” and as well as a lot celebrities are on social media for whatever reasons, interacting with their fans etc. – because they truly enjoy it or because it’s good PR – and I think because of it, people are starting to think and want everyoneshould be there and that we/fans/audience should have access to everyone whose famous. People who don’t want it or see no point, are thought as weird. (Yes, I’ve been called weird for not being interested in it and not wanting to be on social media just because “everyone else” is).

The only reason I got on Facebook was the Oded group, and it’s still the only thing I’m interested in there (and it’s also why I didn’t use my real name making an account there – I don’t want Facebook to have any real life information on me). I don’t want Oded to get on Twitter or Facebook if it’s only because his fans or publicist say he should. I’d feel bad about forcing him to post on them, if he himself really isn’t interested. Jeri Ryan, my favorite actress is both on Twitter and Google+ and it’s wonderful but only because she herself wants it, and is active and talks with fans every day. I did have a Twitter account long before she made one, but it wasn’t until she got one that I started to login to Twitter regularly – I still do it only once or twice a week.

What I would love, is to have a reliable and steady source information on his career – what’s he’s doing, what tv series or movie or voice work is he going be doing and when it’s going to air. Doesn’t matter if its himself, or his publicist, a twitter or facebook or website maintained by him or his presentation or whatever. The last several years, seems like it’s we always found out because some other celebrity said he’s gonna be in it, or in some side paragraph in one of those far and apart interviews of his (which aren’t publicised either) or a random google search. I want Oded to do what he’s comfortable with, and if that’s means he’s not going to be on Twitter or Facebook or much PR, that’s OK by me. It’s makes me a little sad, but it’s OK.

Anyway, end of the rant.
