Goodbye Jetpack!

Got an e-mail today from Jetpack that they have determined this site to be commercial in nature and that I had 5 days to upgrade to a business license! No idea how they got to that conclusion because, reading their own definition on their own site, the site does not match any of the things stipulated there.

I googled and this seems to be happening to a lot of people! Probably an automatic algorithm marking scores of random sites as commercial in hopes that the webmasters don’t investigate & complain and just pay like good little lambs so they can make money.

No matter. I deleted Jetpack pretty much immediately, and then started looking what alternatives I could find. I’d been thinking on switching to something less bloated than Jetpack, and hopefully to a simpler stats plugin for ages anyway but just couldn’t be bothered until now! Also deleted Jetpack from https://skeins.so-obsessed.com (although that site wasn’t marked as commercial as yet) and switched another plugin there too!

Jetpack used to be really good but that was like 10-12 years ago but it’s gotten more and more bloated over time. Such a shame they’re now either using a malfunctioning algorithm or are trying to fleece people.

WordPress Hackers

<sarcasm>Yes, I’m sure that even though the first 100 times of trying to login as “admin123”, or variation there of, failed & got your IP(s) blocked for X amount of time, it’s gonna magically work one of the next 100 times you try it.</sarcasm>

So I’ve been following logs for a couple of months now on all sites of mine, and while there are hacking attempts everyday, they about triple Fridays through Sundays. Some of the sites are more “popular” than others but they all get them every day. It’s… been eye opening.
