New Wallpaper + Ditching Photoshop

If you make icons or wallpapers or other graphics, what program are you using??? Looking for recs to try out! ✨

Adobe is hiking their prices up, including my Photoshop plan which was 12,39 euros per month and which will be 18,75 euros per month starting January 29, 2025. An increase of more than 6 euros! The new price is too high for me, and I haven’t been using Photoshop that much these past 2 years to justify it even if it wasn’t too much for me. So I canceled my plan, and have installed GIMP. I’m going to check out some other alternatives as well, including a two pay-once image editors in the 50-70 euros range. I used GIMP a bit like a decade ago, it was okay but I never got comfortable with it, but I’ll try again. I just don’t like having to re-learn everything I know how to do in Photoshop!

I tested GIMP out today just to see whether my typical wallpaper work flow is very different or not from Photoshop. Here’s a wallpaper I made of Catelyn Stark – I could’ve sworn I had made one of her already, but apparently not! So here’s one!

I have to figure how to do text in GIMP – I muddled through the basics of layers and masks and color profile and some other stuff, and probably need just more practice to get comfortable with them. I just didn’t have energy to figure the text (used for my sig) today. Also found one plugin that adds a function I was missing very much from Photoshop (Duplicate to other image) ✨
