The Friday Five for 11 July 2025

My answers to this week’s questions!

The Friday Five for 11 July 2025 – https://thefridayfive.dreamwidth.org/141045.html

1. What was the most sick that you’ve ever been?

In February 2014 I was hospitalized for a week due to Crohn’s Disease symptoms, liver issue and developing Clostridium difficile diarrhea. The liver issue was the most serious of the three. It’s funny – it’s undoubtedly the sickest I’ve been as far as seriousness goes, but I didn’t feel sick at any point. Just very weak and had this odd thing where my feet wouldn’t turn when my brain ordered them to. But once I was in the ER, the first thing they did was give me IV fluids and that cleared that oddness up.

There are two times I’ve felt really sick. The first time when I was a little kid and had chicken pox. I remember feeling absolutely miserable until it cleared up!

The second time isn’t so much a single time but 2008-2016 when my chronic migraine as well as Crohn’s Disease diarrhea were at their worst and on top of those I had my period. I had a constant terrible head pain, strong daily (several times a day) stomach cramps from Crohn’s and also a strong, dull stomach pain from having my period and heavy period bleeding and regular daily Crohn’s diarrhea in addition to the head and stomach pains. Those particular weeks were really fun (my periods last 7 days usually so it was always a week out of a month roughly).

2. What disease are you afraid of getting?

I’m in the risk group for COVID-19 for 3 different reasons, and there are possible illnesses I can get due to Crohn’s Disease and type 2 Diabetes. No point in worrying in advance, they’ll happen or not so I try not to.

3. Are you a big baby when it comes to taking medicine/shots for your illnesses?

Nope. I can’t be. I have to take a lot of pills three times a day, have blood drawn for certain labs the minimum of every 3 months and frequently for other labs several times a year, I have to self-inject Ajovy every 4 weeks, take stool and urine samples minimum of once a year, and more often if needed. The last 17 years have driven all big baby attitudes out of me as well as most of the shyness/embarrassment about taking and talking about things like stool samples. It also probably helped when I got ill and had to start taking and doing all that, that I was already used to having to treat my atopic skin and eczema since babyhood as well as getting new eye glassed regularly; this was just having to add to what I was already used to doing.

4. Is going to the doctor really THAT bad?

Nope, I don’t mind doctor visits. If anything, I wish it’d be easier to contact and get an appointment in the public healthcare. Also, if my chronic illnesses’ symptoms get worse or just change, it’s better to get them checked out sooner rather than later. Because treatment is easier that way.

It’s going to the dentist I don’t like – not sure why! I’ve always been treated well, but just for some reason I’ve never liked it and ever since getting Crohn’s Disease and chronic diarrhea, even though it’s now under better control, I just don’t like. For several years it was because I’d have to go to the toiler at least once during the dentist’s work – to the extent that for a few years, they booked me with a longer than normal appointment because of that! I felt quilty about it even though they never blamed me.

5. Would you have the flu twice a month if you were paid $1,000 for having it?

Nope. My health is already poor enough and troublesome enough.

Friday 5 for July 11: In the can – http://f.riday5.com/2025/07/11/friday-5-for-july-11-in-the-can/

1. What was the most recent meat product you consumed from a can?

It’s been months but it would’ve been meatballs in brown sauce. That’s the only canned meat product I use. Except for tuna sometimes but that’s not meat but fish.

2. What was the most recent vegetable product you consumed from a can?

I don’t use any canned vegetables.

3. What was the most recent fruit product you consumed from a can?

I’m not sure! Probably pineapple, or peach. Or one of those fruit cocktail ones which have sliced pineapples, peaches, apples, oranges and grapes.

4. What was the most recent beverage you consumed from a can?

Euroshopper energy drink. Today.

5. What are you approaching this week with a can-do attitude?

The exercises my physiotherapist has given me!
