Star Trek TNG Bluray Screencapping Complete

Star Trek TNG Bluray Screencapping Complete

I finished screencapping Star Trek: The Next Generation from Bluray a few days ago! Including all seven seasons and all four TNG movies. Frankly I didn’t actually think this day would ever come! It was such a daunting task, which was made hugely easier when last year I upgraded my internet connection to a better one that came with a significant upstream upgrade too! 😀 Since that upgrade, uploading one episode’s worth of screencaps only takes about 5-10 minutes 😀 Contrast that to an hour  which it always took before from about 2010 onwards, and two to three hours the decade before that. Gotta love advance in technology!

Anyway, I always felt/thought/kept hoping that by the time I finished (if I ever finish) capping TNG, DS9 and maybe even VOY would be remastered in HD and out on Bluray and that I’d just continue on with DS9 Blurays. BUT, and I can’t believe this, but neither DS9 nor VOY have been remastered in HD! There aren’t even rumours!

I can’t believe it. What are TPTB thinking?! I think that DS9 and VOY will be totally forgotten if they aren’t released in HD – people aren’t going to be wanting to see anything in SD anymore in the future, I know I already don’t if there’s an HD option. Except maybe the hard core, mostly already existing Star Trek fans, who’ll bitterly make do with SD and DVDs. There’ll be no new viewers because even if the shows are on Netflix etc. quality will be so low compared to remastered in HD Star Trek and currrent, modern shows that I don’t believe casual viewers, who could turn into fans, are willing to give SD-only shows a chance. I just really think they’re are in danger of wasting a huge chunk of the Star Trek property by not remastering DS9 and VOY in HD.

Also, the Jeri Ryan fan in me wants to see 7of9 really, really badly in HD. It’d be glorious.

Stargate Atlantis Legacy Books

I’ve finally finished reading the 8 book series Stargate Atlantis: Legacy, chronicling the events taking place after the series finale “Enemy At The Gate”.  The eight books are just as good as everyone has been saying they are! In many ways I think they surpass the tv series itself, going in depth into issues that interest me such as Teyla’s Wraith inheritance and the Wraith society and the retrovirus and what it means to be Wraith. I also loved that Ronon got to do stuff he never got to do on the series and be more than just the muscle. I’ve never been fan of Sheppard or McKay, so I was happy to find that other characters get a lot screentime as well, such as Zelenka, more so than in the series IMHO.

Also read The Lost Queen, by one of the authors of Legacy and takes place in that same universe, which was all about the mystery of a disappeared Wraith Queen and even though Sheppard etc. are there too, it was all from the point of view of the Wraith.

A word of caution – I suggest getting all the books before starting, and definitely read them in order – most of them end in a middle of a story, and you’ll be left hanging if you don’t have the next one ready to go! Indeed, I thought that first five or so books would’ve worked even better as a one book instead of five.

These are probably the best tv tie-ins I’ve read since the Star Trek novels published in 1970s through mid-1990s, and I enjoyed them very much. I’ll definitely be checking out these authors’ other Stargate books as well!

The Walking Dead: Negan Is Ruining The Show

I can’t stand Negan and this write up by forbes.com sums up all the reasons why.

I’ve always enjoyed TWD, even the not-so-good seasons had bits and pieces I liked but the current season and all the characters are in every way so tied up with Negan that the whole show is getting ruined. All the eps with Negan have been a chore to get through, and I’m having problems with this last one. For the first time ever I’m tempted to to just drop it, especially now that I just read that Jeffrey Dean Morgan has confirmed that Negan will be appearing in the next season too :/

I’m just so sad that TPTB had to go and ruin a good show 🙁 I’ll miss the characters (who are not Negan) and the world if I give up on it, but Negan annoys me so much.

Thoughts On “Stitchers”

Oded Fehr’s going to be on Stitchers, as a regular/semi-regular/recurring is my impression. So I watched first two episodes and here are my thoughts. No spoilers.

The premise is interesting if not entirely original (Tru Calling came right to mind) and right up my alley… but everything else so far sucks IMHO. I’m not sure whether it’s trying to be a comedy or a drama, the main character is unrelatable and cold, no one can act (especially the guest stars on episode 2) except maybe the girl who plays the room mate (I’d have loved for her to play the main character) and it’s like everyone is rushing through their lines/scenes in an effort to create a feeling of excitement and urgency.

I think I read somewhere that Oded will appear first in episode 9 (I could be wrong) and frankly, I’ll be surprised if the show makes it that far. If things don’t get better, Oded will elevate the show by about 150% simply by sharing space with the other actors – he won’t even have to say anything! If things don’t improve, in my book, this is the second worst thing Oded’s been in; only Drool is worse (I never did make it through that one). I’m actually kind of surprised that he signed on, but maybe the project looked different on page…

In a weird way, it overall reminds me of those sort of campy 1990s scifi tv shows like Sliders and The Sentinel, with the exception that those had their own brand of charm which isn’t a bad thing because I very much enjoyed them. Just that I don’t really see much charm in this one. Had this been made in the 1990s I think I would’ve been completely happy with it. But a decade of shows like Lost, Battlestar Galactica, The 100, Fringe… I expect more.

… Just my .02 cents.

The X-Files to return for new six-episode season

The X Files is coming back as “a six-episode limited series”, helmed by Chris Carter.

I… don’t know whether I’m ecstatic or horrified.
